Follow me to the PGA Tour...

Get to know me

Rodrigo Durán Scarpetta

Son of Ricardo and Adriana, Rodrigo was born in the US. The third and last child of the family: Camilo is the oldest brother and Mariana is the middle child.

A baby with giant steps

Success came early to the Duran Scarpetta family, and Rodrigo started to make a name for himself in the city of Bogotá, the coutry of Colombia, and the US.

The start to the American Dream

Thanks to Rodrigo's parents, he had the opportunity to travel to the States during school holidays. He competed against current winners on the PGA Tour and many other elite players. It was thanks to golf that he and his family fell in love with California.

At the top

When Rodrigo was 8 to 12 years old, he had already established himself as one of the best players in Colombia in his age group. He was already dreaming of becoming the next colombian superstar on the PGA Tour...

A new challenge

Rodrigo's best world rank was Top 30 in his age group, but at the same time he'd spark the attention of soccer coaches. His athleticism, winning mentality and height set him up for a great defensive player. It was then when he changed his routine and focused on becoming a professional soccer player.

Sacrifice or regret... You choose!

Even though golf and soccer are two different sports, Rodrigo applied the same approach to competition: win at all cost. This helped him win many individual recognitions and team competitions. He had days where he finished school and trained afterwards with the school team, then dirve to another soccer practice with a local soccer club, and finally, end the day, with a night practice at his recreational club; that is three pracices in one day!

California Dreamin'

When he was 15, Rodrigo started a new chapter of his life which would test him in all different ways and forever change him as a person. He arived to San Diego, CA to experience a different life from the one back home, very far from his family and friends.

New changes, new objectives

After five years of playing competitive soccer all around the world (including Spain, US, and Colombia), Rodrigo knew he still wanted to play golf. And allthough he enjoyed every aspect of team competition and everything revolving soccer, it came with several injuries which would prevent him from playing at a professional level. With this in mind, he decided to go back to golf -- with practically a new body, new swing and new competition.

Like learning to ride a bike again

As golfers know, golf is a very jealous game: if you do not practice it often, it will bite your tail off! This 'renaissance' was going to cost him blood, sweat and tears, which is why he decided to start working with one of the best golf instructors in the world (@ChrisMaysonGolf).

"To become the best, you need to sorround yourself with the best," his father once told him.

The return to glory

There was no doubt that Rodrigo has always liked to win golf tournaments, but to do so he definetly neded to make some adjustments since he left the sport at 12 years of age.

His next ambition was to play college golf, a childhood dream he was getting closer to achieve thanks to his recent performances. After all, coaches are looking for players who can help their team go low.

College Golf

During his time at Chapman University, Rodrigo was able to balance many things that many people are not willing to put the work in: pursue two careers, play a highly competitive sport, and sustain a freshman-year girlfriend. Nonetheless, after three and a half years, he graduated with academic honors as a Data Analyst and Economist, improved his golf game, and made great relationships for the years to come.

Present and future

Rodrigo has recently turned pro and is competing in local, regional, and national tournaments. His goal is clear: get to the PGA Tour. However, he cannot get there on his own and that is why he is reaching out to those interested in becoming part of this great story. If you or anyone you may know are interested in joining Rodrigo's team, please feel free to reach out and he will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for making it to the end! And stay tuned for more!
